Hong Kong Best Food Box Hill

This place is my go to cha chaan teng for a reason! The food is fantastic, authentic HK style, and incredible value with massive portions. I'm especially obsessed with their silky scrambled egg and char siu rice. With its great retro vibe and reliable deliciousness, it's an easy 5 star spot in Box Hill! Highly recommended!

Went there after looking at the fairly good reviews and hoping to get some freshly made soups on a cold and wet evening. We were incredible disappointed to receive omelette that reeked of and dripped with stale oil. The shocker was the coconut and chicken soup, when my partner tried to eat the shavings of cox it, he could barely even leave the bite mark on the piece, leave aside bite into the very fine shaving of coconut. When I tried, I could affirm that it was nowhere close to a food item but a several pieces of plastics! Didn’t smell like a coconut or felt like one when we tried to bite it. When we questioned the waiter and eventually the chef, we were told the soup mix comes ‘prepared’ from their sources and they can’t show us the raw ingredients of it!!!?? Appalled is an understatement. Absolute disaster of a place!!!

The portion of food given was pretty good, however the quality is below average. Service was, well.. your typical HK cafe servicing and atmosphere. Compared to other HK cafes in surrounding suburbs, this visit was rather disappointing. Hainan chicken: - Chicken was old and stale. They provided options for white rice, vermicelli, egg noodle and hor fun, but lacked the necessary chicken rice. - sauce was disgusting, withered onions Chicken fillet with tomato sauce: - probably re-deep fried way too many times - tomato sauce lacks proper flavor, texture and color Pineapple bun with butter: - barely hot enough for the butter to melt - bun seems to be made a day or two ago? - wasn’t crispy on the top Ice milk tea - normal Improvement definitely needs to be made to food quality and presentation.

Ordered both their lunch and afternoon set. The price was reasonable since it included drinks, and the portion size was decent. However, the taste was quite average, nothing really stood out or impressed. Overall, it was just okay, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back.

Stopped for a quick dinner and really loved the thoughtful and quirky decor. Food was good but it was not up there with the greatest for me. Overall still a good experience!
