After travelling all day getting to Melbourne we wanted something light in the evening before bed. Australia is blessed with so many great Thai restaurants, however so many are so similar in their offerings. It was only when staying with family in Thailand that I experienced how much more exciting Thai food can be. Ian Eang by Thai Culinary is a Thai restaurant that will encourage you look for more that yet another Pad Thai. Their menu is truly original. The soft rice paper of duck rice paper rollls gave way to richly flavoured roast duck with hoisin sauce, fried shallots and Thai spicy seafood sauce giving them a mild zing. The salmon tartare was impeccably fresh with the diced salmon lifted by the Thai chilli mayonnaise and caviar. the crispy rice crackers were paper thin but still perfect to carry the salmon. There was enough bite to the mayonnaise to make it interesting without overpowering the subtle salmon flavour. The real winner that night was the watermelon and plum salad. Freshly diced exquisitely fresh watermelon topped with toasted coconuts, pumpkin seeds, fried shallots, dried fish and shrimps and plum seasoning. The interplay of sweet a savoury turned this salad into one of the most interesting Thai dishes I can recall. Our quick Thai supper was one to remember. This is no ordinary Thai restaurant.

A truly wonderful place to eat. We ordered the Fried Spicy Chicken Ribs (We had a bend of the OG seasoning and Tom Yum seasoning), Papaya Salad with Soft Shell Crab and Thai Red Curry with Grilled Salmon. Honestly, the food was amazing and I would go back and have it again.

The food and service were amazing, could not fault either. Delicious flavours and the right mix of food offerings. The atmosphere was a little let down on this visit, it was extremely hot even with air con working, although it was a very hot day so not entirely the restaurant's fault. Will definitely return and recommend to others.

“Crispy chicken, toasted cashews, and rich sauce… this dish is a must-order.” The betel leaf with scallop was incredibly fresh and beautifully balanced The grilled king prawn salad was outstanding—juicy, smoky prawns with a fresh, vibrant dressing that really popped. The fried chicken spare ribs were a standout—golden, crunchy coating with tender, juicy meat and amazing seasoning.

Absolutely stunning Thai restaurant that I found via Google maps and the reviews. I ordered a selection of smaller plates to sample different flavours. The staff were friendly and attentive, the cocktails were well mixed and full of flavour. The food, OMG the food, the flavours were light, tangy, delicious and well balanced. The atmosphere was funky and cool, both upstairs and downstairs. I was seated just inside the door downstairs. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Thank you for an incredible experience.
