Niku Shiki Glen Waverley
Review on 18/6/2025
I stopped by Niku Shiki to check out their display, particularly the wagyu beef. While I enjoy a good quality steak, I am not inclined to spend a premium on heavily marbled cuts.
That said, the lunch specials seemed reasonably priced, so I opted for the Diced Beef on Rice. It was competitively priced — on par with most lunch sets in the area.
The staff enthusiastically described the beef as “melt-in-your-mouth,” which, in my experience, was an overstatement. The marinated beef was flavoursome, but certainly not the buttery texture I was led to expect. The pieces had a slight chew, and overall the description felt a touch exaggerated.
To be fair, the marinade was delicious, and the dish was enjoyable in its own right. However, I could not distinguish this “premium” wagyu from a standard good-quality fillet. Still, it made for a pleasant change from my usual fried noodles.
