Brought my laptop in on 15 May as my Ctrl key was damaged and I needed it repaired fast as I had multiple school assignments due that week. The technician in store explained that the key could not be replaced individually and that the entire keyboard had to be replaced, and I was quoted $285 in total ($185 for hardware, $100 for repair service) I was told that the part would arrive within a week and could be replaced around 18-19 May, so I paid the deposit upfront the same day. I called in the request a cancellation roughly 20h in the next day as I decided $285 was not worth it for just one key, and the technician that answered said the part had been ordered so unfortunately there was not much he could do. Understandable as I assume they would put the order in once the deposit was received so I decided not to press on. After a couple weeks of no follow-up on their end, I went back to the store to check on the laptop part. A different technician looked into it and later called me back to explain there had been an unexpected shipping delay. I was told the keyboard should arrive by that Sunday. By then, I had already worked around the issue by remapping my keyboard and purchasing an external mechanical keyboard. A few weeks later, (26 May) I decided to head back in again as they had once again not contacted me regarding my keyboard, repeated the same interaction with the technician which she then explained only then that China's customs have been very strict recently due to a surge in illegal vapes being smuggled in, and that she would get back to me as soon as she contacted the other technician that was handling my case. Roughly 30mins later I received a call explaining that the keyboard has arrived a week ago and they actually tried to contact me about it (I checked my call logs and no incoming calls was made by their listed number), and that I can come in and give them my laptop to send for repairs. A week later (2 July) I turned in my laptop in which the technician said the replacement is a simple job and shouldn't take a day, but when I returned the next day the other technician told me it was nowhere ready and I should come back after a few days. I finally got the message to pick up my repaired laptop on the 5th (over 50 days after my first deposit) and picked up my laptop on the 8th when I was available. Overall an incredibly frustrating experience with lackluster communication from staff, ignoring the extreme pricings of the job itself (I googled the price of the keyboard replacement and it came to just under 45$ from most sources), I think the main thing that they could improve is just more transparency and proactive communication between both customers and internal staffing. This review was done a couple weeks after the last interaction as my initial draft was a lot more jaded but I felt this was more fair. After looking at other negative reviews which also shared similar experiences it also seems like the owner is quite dismissive of concerns raised about the service so I highly doubt they will respond cordially to this review, but this is moreso for prospective customers who want to know whether they should patronize this business. One star. edit: After about a couple days of usage, I noticed that sometimes pressing keys weren't registering and the top cover bending down slightly so I took it to another repair shop for an assessment. The technician there told me that what likely happened was that whoever repaired my laptop broke the plastic screws holding my the keyboard piece to the top cover which resulted in occasional cover edging down and consequently the keys not registering when pressed, which he said should have been mentioned to me as a preemptive warning and informed of the alternative of replacing the entire keyboard, panel and cover for a higher price. Obviously I was not told about this which would've definitely swayed my initial decision to even get it replaced.
