Osaka Bench

Honestly, Osaka Bench is one of the best Japanese restaurants I’ve tried in Melbourne! The moment you walk in, it genuinely feels like you’ve been transported straight to Japan 🇯🇵✨ The atmosphere is beautiful, cozy, and very authentic. What makes the experience even more special is that the chef cooks right in front of you, which makes everything feel fresh and exciting! You can truly tell the food is made with love and care — everything was so delicious 🤍 We tried: 🍳 Omurice 🍜 Ramen 🥘 Okonomiyaki 🥟 Appetizers ( Gyoza - Prawns ) Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely satisfying. The quality and taste were amazing, and each plate was better than the last 😍 If you’re looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience with great vibes and delicious food, I highly recommend Osaka Bench!

Really enjoyed our meal at Osaka Bench. Everything we tried was warm, comforting and full of flavour without being too heavy or over the top. The food felt thoughtfully made and the atmosphere was cosy and relaxed. A lovely spot in Flinders Lane for an easy, enjoyable Japanese meal.

I have eaten a lot of Japanese food in Melbourne and in Japan so was excited read the reviews of Osaka bench ( and hoping it would be like Dontonburi) and give it a try. On walking in, our party of 2 immediately ordered two bento boxes. One was a fried bento and the second was a teriyaki chicken. We opted to seat in this tiny restaurant. There are few tables that are welded to the walls and bench seating in front of the kitchen. Tables need to be wiped down and cleared more often. The first bento arrived with 5 minutes of ordering. The fried bento was served in a round plate and contained rice, four takoyaki, two harumaki, some paper thin pork katsu and four chicken karaag, a reasonable size for a lunch bento. The second bento arrived 5 minutes later and was served in a bento box. This bento contained rice, pickles, seaweed, tempura prawns and teriyaki chicken. The food is ok for its price point and I’ve had better. Whilst the restaurant turns over customers quickly it comes at the cost of quality food. The highlight was the takoyaki, very creamy and similar to what is made in Osaka. I did see a customer’s order of Omurice and kicked myself for not ordering as this looked very good!

We tried a mix of dishes and the ramen, dumplings, takoyaki and omurice were all flavourful and hit the spot. Everything felt freshly made and home-style. The only miss for us was the okonomiyaki, which wasn’t quite what we usually go for in terms of texture and flavour. That said, the rest of the menu delivered, and Osaka Bench is still a great little place for casual Japanese comfort food in a relaxed setting.

Have been here multiple times and never been disappointed! The place is perfect for students to working professionals. The food has always been delicious. What I have eaten here: - Omurice - Chicken katsu don - Chicken teriyaki don - Tempura prawn - Teriyaki tofu
