Wongderful Restaurant

The food was pretty good last time when I was there, but definitely worse now. Sorry, couldn’t not able to finish most food as taste really below average. Services, The service really disappointed me. It honestly makes me want to say goodbye to this restaurant from now on. That waitress’s attitude was very poor, and it felt like we were bothering her if you ask any question. It made me feel very uncomfortable and even lose my appetite.

This place is a gem for anyone craving proper soup dumplings. The star of the show is the Crab Roe Xiao Long Bao. The skin is perfectly thin, and each one is packed with a hot, savoury, and slightly sweet broth. The filling is generous and really tasty. We also loved the handmade dumplings and the pan-fried ones, great flavour in the filling, and the fried version had a crispy base without being oily at all. A huge plus is the open kitchen, where you can see a team of ladies expertly making everything by hand. You can really tell it's all fresh and made to order.

I had hoped that the place would have improved since moving to this new location and after all the "new hype" generated by those shill-y influencers. However, I was sorely disappointed, once again by the lacklustre and mediocre food. I ordered soya bean drinks, steamed pork soup dumplings (aka xiao long bao), panfried crab pork dumpling ( aka sheng jian bao) and soup pork wontons. The flavours were almost there. the texture of the fillings was good but the execution is terrible. The bottom of the pan fried dumpling is supposed to be crispy but was not and instead it was doughy and thick. It was also served with a side dish of vinegar with ONE and I kid you not, ONE TINY singke piece of ginger ( as shown in the photo).The wonton soup had no flavours , no salt, no nothing. The only thing ok and middling is the xiao long bao, which nowadays you can get better quality from Aldi of all places ( no kidding as the Aldi ones have thinner skins) All in all, not much has changed to this place. It's a restaurant for the masses chasing a filling meal but not taste. I would argue that Dumpling king at the front of chinatown is better as the prices are lower, the execute the dishes better and they offer free tea. Honestly, how did they survive?

Don’t mind the lack of photos in this review, food was too good to not eat straight away. Fresh soup dumplings were gorgeous, full of amazing soup and beautiful pork! I came here previously to the old store and had a negative customer experience, this time was complete opposite they were really friendly and kind and were able to let us know how to order takeaway!

We've been coming to Wongderful regularly since discovering their dumplings at their original location. The restaurant isn't fancy, but the food is consistently good, with several standout dishes. All dumplings are handmade on site; the crab meat xiao long bao and pot stickers are particular highlights. The xiao long bao has a thin, delicate skin and are juicy and full of flavour. One thing to note: the space is quite small and often packed, so there’s usually a queue. If you’re after a spacious and relaxed dining environment, this might not be the best fit. Some of the negative reviews may come from people frustrated with the wait but in our experience, the food is worth it.
